Mark R. Smith's exhibition, Desert or Ocean focuses on the subject of climate change and climate refugeeism as a narrative backdrop, particularly on the evolving problem of regions becoming either too wet or too dry to properly support habitation.
While formally abstract, the work in this exhibition visually references large and small environmental phenomena—meandering rivers, snaking roadways, and ant foraging trails—to suggest essential movement, questing and/or displacement.
