Elizabeth Leach Gallery is excited to present I hope I still feel this way tomorrow, an exhibition of new work made by Eugene-based artist Charlene Liu. Liu’s fifth solo show with the gallery traverses painted and printed mediums, as well as a variety of techniques to materialize the intangible, subtle, quotidian moments that often go overlooked. The artist employs tactile, highly manual processes such as hand-carved hatching and drifting, tumbling, scattering, and accreting forms across the surface to express the intimate moods and perceptual inferences of the day-to-day.
In the slow and quick passing of time, the slipping of in-between moments and spaces, local time and immediacy of place expands to cosmic time and the mercurial past and future. Pressure and touch embeds color, line, and image into the material surface, revealing chance combinations, accidental marks, residual ink, and textural imperfections.
